There’s no one-size-fits-all with air conditioning. The best system depends on your rooms, ceiling height, wall space and the look you’re after. Here are the main options for UK homes, and we’ll help you choose during a free home survey.
By far the most popular choice for UK homes. The indoor unit sits high on the wall, staying compact, quiet and out of the way. Wall-mounted split systems go in quickly without major building work, which makes them ideal for existing homes, flats and terraces. They heat and cool a room efficiently, and modern units are whisper-quiet with a clean, low-profile look.
Best for: living rooms, bedrooms and home offices, and most homes generally.
Fitted low down or at floor level, much like a radiator, console units are the answer where high wall space is limited. They suit rooms with low or sloping ceilings, conservatories, loft conversions, and spots beneath a window where a standard wall unit won’t fit. Sitting at floor level, they’re easy to reach and can even take the place of a radiator, heating and cooling while saving space.
Best for: conservatories, loft conversions, low or sloped ceilings, and under-window spots.
Recessed neatly into a suspended or false ceiling, a cassette sits flush overhead with only a slim grille on show. With airflow in up to four directions, it heats and cools larger, open rooms evenly from a central point, often more effectively than a single wall unit. A tidy, discreet option wherever there’s ceiling void to house it.
Best for: larger open-plan rooms, kitchen-diners and spaces that need even, all-round coverage.
The most discreet option of all. The unit and its ductwork are tucked away in the loft or ceiling void, with only slim, unobtrusive grilles visible in each room. Ducted systems deliver near-invisible comfort across several rooms or a whole floor, which is why they’re a favourite in high-end homes, renovations and new builds where the interior look really matters. They do need enough ceiling or loft space for the hidden ductwork.
Best for: whole-home comfort, luxury interiors, renovations and new builds.
Beyond installation
Like any hard-working appliance, air conditioning runs best with a little regular care. An annual service keeps efficiency up, running costs and noise down, and helps your system last for years. We clean and check filters and coils, test refrigerant levels, and make sure everything’s running safely and quietly.
If your system isn’t cooling or heating as it should, is making an odd noise, or has stopped altogether, we’ll get to the bottom of it. We diagnose and repair faults quickly and cleanly, on the systems we’ve fitted and on those we haven’t.
